1L Spring

After an amazing Christmas break, I thought I would come back to school rejuvenated & ready to work.

I was wrong! I gave my ALL in the fall & I just didn’t have anything else to give. LOL. I crawled to the finish line of this semester just thankful that I made it to the end. I had to write a 30 page brief, interview for jobs, network, comprehend torts, & maintain my sanity.

Even though I felt completely overwhelmed. A lot of positive things happened this semester, so let’s get caught up:

  1. My 1L summer will be spent working as a legal intern at a Fortune 500 company! :O
  2. I’m living in Chicago for the next 2 months
  3. I was selected to compete on the college of law’s official Trial Team!
  4. I’m the BLSA 1L coordinator for 2016-2017
  5. I’m now on the board of the Woman’s Law Society
  6. I found the most amazing friend & we’re going to be roommates next year!
  7. I’m seeing Beyonce with my best friend (Read her blog ByTisha) on May 28th

Nothing can top Beyonce so that’s the end of the list. I’m sorry for the lack of blog posts this semester. I’ll be posting frequently throughout the summer!

Thanks for reading😘

Using Microsoft OneNote: Law School Notes

Organized notes are the key to success!

I’ve used OneNote since day 1 of law school and its been amazing. I don’t know how everyone else keeps their notes together but I couldn’t use anything else. OneNote is great because it provides you with one place to keep everything! Notes, to-do lists, syllabi, etc.  It’s also supported by Microsoft OneDrive, the iCloud equivalent for PC’s. So last semester when my computer crashed all of my notes were safe up in the cloud (THANK GOD). You can download OneNote online here : Download OneNote

I’ll run you through how I organize my notes, but remember there are lots of ways to mold the program into what works best for you. Continue reading “Using Microsoft OneNote: Law School Notes”

Everyone is Smarter Than Me & Other Crazy Things Law Students Think

Even with a 3.5 GPA, being surrounded by 4.0 students will make you doubt yourself.

Unfortunately this is a huge issue in the law school community. Self-doubt and insecurity are at an all time high. With people getting jobs, scholarships and awards its easy to find yourself feeling inadequate. Continue reading “Everyone is Smarter Than Me & Other Crazy Things Law Students Think”

Stu{dying} For Finals

With just 13 days until my first final, I think its safe to say that ish is getting REAL.

I turned my open memo in on Nov. 19th and I wanted to dance, sing, and celebrate. That weekend I went out with a group of friends as our last hoorah before studying began. Continue reading “Stu{dying} For Finals”

10 Makeup Must-Haves

Law school is depressing, so this week we’re talking about MAKEUP!

I am a shameless makeup addict! Sephora, Ulta & MAC are no strangers to my wallet. I wasnt always into makeup, but during my freshman year of college I discovered the world Youtube Beauty Guru’s. Continue reading “10 Makeup Must-Haves”

Legal Writing is…

IMG_4076.jpg

This week’s adventures in law school brings us to the lovely topic of legal writing (LWR). Everything was going so well! LOL.

I’ve struggled with writing so much this past week. I knew coming in that I was nervous about the class, but I didn’t realize it would be so stressful! Continue reading “Legal Writing is…”

1 Month Down, 29 To Go

4 weeks into law school and I am alive and well! I can’t believe it’s already been a month, I guess time flies when you’re having “fun.”

So far I can honestly say it hasn’t been bad. All of the horror stories you hear are over-hyped and obnoxious. During the semester you do the same thing everyday. I’ve read hundreds of boring pages, I’ve been cold-called, and I’ve spent hours in the library. It’s boring, but it’s not hard……yet.

From what I hear the most difficult times of the semester are the days prior to legal writing due dates and finals. I haven’t experienced those days yet, but when I do I’ll be sure to revisit the topic.

Here’s some law school do’s & dont’s if you’re starting next year.

  • Don’t even think about doing 0L prep. In my opinion, it won’t do much good.
    • You’ll probably forget most of what you learn and professors teach what they want to teach. If they choose not to cover adverse possession in property, reading about it over the summer would be a complete waste. Why spend your free time reading when you could be laying out on the beach?
  • Dont think that working in a law firm will make you a better student.
    • Having a background on a legal subject can be nice, but it doesn’t mean you’ll get an A in the class. Everyone starts out on the same playing field, what you do from there is what counts.
  • Do make friends prior to starting.
    • Most schools have a Facebook page for incoming students, use it! You’ll be glad you did when you don’t have to sit next to a stranger on the first day of class.
  • Do RELAX. It wont be as bad as it seems!

I’m feeling good so far, bring it on law school!
